I have heard church described as a relationship: you can only date for so long before you make a commitment.
Have you been visiting?
Do you feel God is leading you to become an active member of a local body of believers?
Are you ready?
If so, THAT IS GREAT NEWS! God says in 1 Corinthians 12:7, "To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good." If He has led you here, He has also equipped you to be an active part of the church family.
How, then, do you become part of the church family?
The answer depends first on your relationship with Jesus Christ. Biblically speaking, church membership is reserved for those who have surrendered to the lordship of Jesus Christ and followed through in obedience to His command to be baptized. If you have questions about what that means, I would be thrilled to sit down with you. In the meantime, click HERE.
1. If you have already made that commitment in your life and have been a member of a sister Baptist Church, it is simply an administrative function. At your request, our secretary will contact the secretary of the church where you are a member. They remove you from their membership role, and we add you to ours. This is called "joining by letter".
2. If you have already made that commitment in your life and are not a member of a sister Baptist Church, you would come by a statement of faith. That means you are in agreement with what WPBC believes (see our general beliefs HERE), have personally surrendered to the lordship of Jesus and have followed through with baptism by immersion.
3. If you have surrendered to the lordship of Jesus, but have not yet been baptized - you would join by baptism.
4. If you are coming as a new believer in Christ Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we celebrate with you! You would also join by baptism. We would love to help you along your journey of following Christ. In case you missed it, click HERE for a devotional that takes you through the first week of following Christ.
In any case, we would introduce you to the church and make it official with a verbal affirmation by the congregation.
Every member is encouraged to become part of a small group; whether you meet on Sunday morning, Sunday evening or another designated time. We find that Christian growth occurs best in small groups, so we want you to find a place where you can grow (and it is ok to try more than one group).
If you have made a commitment, we would appreciate it if you would fill out our online connection card HERE and let us know of your decision.
Becoming part of a church family begins with your personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. If you are not sure if that is an accurate description of you, please click on the link below.
